The Ultimate GR Summer Bucket List
By Grace Hasley
For those sticking around during the summer, the best way to liven up the next few months is with a bucket list. Grand Rapids has so many things to do that it can feel overwhelming. If you’re not sure where to start, check some things off of this list.
#1. Dance all day at Breakaway
Breakaway Music Festival is a student-budget-friendly festival held in Grand Rapids every summer. On August 18-19, get your tickets and head to Belknap Park downtown to jam out to the featured artists.
#2. Catch a sunset at Lookout Park
Get the best view of the city skyline at Lookout Park, right off of Medical Mile. Bring a picnic basket and some friends to watch a display of golden light for the perfect ending to a summer day. If Lookout isn’t for you, Grand Rapids has many more parks to discover where you can appreciate nature.
#3. Visit all coffee shops in Grand Rapids
It may sound like a challenge, but it’s not impossible! Grand Rapids is home to many coffee shops with delicious caffeinated treats. Become a GR coffee shop expert and find your favorite spot. Places like Madcap, Outdoor Coffee Co, and Ferris Coffee have outdoor seating so you can soak up the summer sun.
#4. Experience the Festival of the Arts
The Festival of the Arts is a summer tradition that spans throughout multiple blocks of Grand Rapids. From June 2-4, explore the streets of GR and marvel at a wide variety of art free of cost and grab a bite to eat at one of the dozens of food booths.
#5. Search for the perfect ice cream shop
On a hot summer day, sometimes all you need is some good ice cream. Not to worry, Grand Rapids is full of ice cream shops for you to choose from. This summer, try to find the best one out there. Will it be Frosty Boy, Pinkies, Jersey Junction, or all three? You decide!
