Happy Spring, Lakers! As you start to defrost from the winter, discover all of the cool activities that you’ve been missing during hibernation. Take the Laker Line to Grand Rapids or explore around Allendale to reach these special spring-friendly destinations.
Hammock in the Arboretum
Grand Valley’s most peaceful patch of nature: The Arboretum is warming up just for you! Take a solo adventure or bring a friend to frolic in the pebble trails and discover local wildlife. Bring your hammock, a book, and a little picnic to strap up in the trees for the ultimate relaxing experience.
Ball Up!
Bring your best game to the campus basketball courts! You can find them placed next to Holton Hooker and Kleiner Commons, where you can shoot hoops and work up a sweat! Bring buddies or brush up your ball game, the nice weather is the perfect setup for an athletic afternoon.
Visit Motman’s Greenhouse
2 miles down Lake Michigan Drive, you’ll find Motman’s Greenhouse. You can find fresh produce and flowers in this extensive local greenhouse. They have their grand re-opening for the season on April 17, so make sure to support local farmers and don’t miss the first grab at their green goodies!
Stroll Through Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park
One of Grand Rapids’ most sought after attractions is the Frederik Meijer Gardens. Marvel at beautiful sculptures and art and hang out in the luscious gardens. These aren’t any ordinary gardens, they are also full of butterflies! Take a day trip to appreciate nature and art with discounted student tickets.
Chow Down at GR Food Trucks
Grand Rapids has so many restaurants that they had to put some of them on wheels! Throughout spring, you can find local food trucks all around GR on certain days. On April 27, kick off food truck season at Lookout Park with Tour De Food Trucks. Keep an eye out for more events like this as the weather warms up.
