Vigil Supporting the MSU Community

Dear Lakers,

Our hearts go out to the Michigan State University community after Monday’s tragic events. This senseless violence is once again hitting too close to home, and we acknowledge that it is impacting you all in different ways.

As stated by GVSU President Mantella, “We must not accept violence and terrorism on our campuses or in our communities.” Our University Counseling Center is available to students who need support during this time of processing and grieving, and the Dean of Students Office invites students to submit a CARE referral if you or a friend need additional resources now, or any time throughout the year.

The well-being of our GV community continues to be our top priority, and our team is working closely with the GVSU Department of Public Safety on our own crisis preparedness plan. You can find education and prevention resources on their website. The Dean of Students Office can also be reached at 616-331-3585 if you’d like to speak with someone directly or have any questions.

We invite you to join Student Senate and the GV community Thursday, February 16 at 7 p.m. for a vigil in remembrance of those who lost their lives and in support of those injured and affected. We will gather at the Cook Carillon Tower on the Allendale campus, and encourage you to wear green and white. A banner is available for signing in the Kirkhof Center through Friday, February 17 as well as at the vigil.

Take care of yourselves and one another, Lakers.

Sincerely,

Dr. Aaron Haight
Associate VP for Student Engagement and Dean of Students
