Meet Housing and Residence Life
Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is a part of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) that connects Lakers to on-campus living, keeping them connected and engaged with the GVSU community. The HRL team manages room assignments, works with Facilities Services to manage the on-campus living centers, develops programming, and supports the resident assistants (RAs).
HRL strives to give students a positive on-campus experience by offering fun events for students to attend, residential advising, roommate mediation, and more. Hunter Nemmers, the HRL sales and marketing manager, works with other campus departments to enhance students’ overall experience at GVSU.
“We do this by supporting students through their entire GVSU career,” Hunter says. "Students who live on campus at GVSU utilize the support we and other departments offer, [and they] statistically have better grades and are far more likely to complete their degrees on time.
If students wish to further impact the on-campus living experience for themselves or others, they can join the Residence Housing Association (RHA). RHA members can attend weekly meetings, host open forums, and facilitate fun events to make a difference in the on-campus living community.
Students who want to get involved in HRL can also apply to be a resident assistant (RA). RAs live in on-campus living centers and work directly with residents to ensure they also have a positive on-campus experience. Additionally, RAs host programs for residents, decorate bulletin boards, facilitate roommate mediations, and make living centers feel like a welcoming place.
