UCC and AOD: Looking Out for Lakers
By Bella Gielniak
The University Counseling Center (UCC) is a part of the Division of Student Affairs that works to improve the well-being of students through dozens of resources. The UCC offers individual counseling, group resources, self-help, and emergency services, ensuring to keep you on your mental health A-game if the semester gets tough.
One resource of the UCC is Alcohol and Other Drug Services (AOD). AOD works with students to spread awareness about making healthy and safe choices with alcohol and other drugs. AOD Services offers Group Therapy, eCheckups, and hosts monthly events like Game Night and Happy Hour.
Andrea Smith, the Assistant Director of AOD Programs, says that the UCC and AOD “provide a space for students to strengthen their unique physical, social, emotional and spiritual wellness.” She says the services help students make informed decisions about alcohol and other drugs and mental health wellness.
Andrea encourages students to attend a Game Night or a Happy Hour. Visit the University Club (DeVos 107C Pew Campus) 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 for the next Game Night! AOD events are a “fun way for students to learn smart, safe and responsible choices about substance use,” Andrea says. “We provide snacks and drinks as well!”
