Earth Day is coming up on April 22! Earth Day is coming up on April 22, which means it’s time to love and give back to our beautiful planet! Read this article to learn some quick tips on how to become a more eco-friendly person!

Tip #1  Sort your trash with Laker Food Co.

Around campus, there are multiple disposal cans where you can sort your waste into compost, recyclables, and landfill discard. Keep a lookout for these bins at any dining place around campus and sort your waste accordingly.

Tip #2: Utilize the Lakerline

Stay sustainable and utilize the Lakerline! Bussing is a great way to reduce traffic and carbon emissions. On the LakerLine, you can save gas money, access wifi, get to another campus quickly, and explore downtown.

Tip #3: Join a sustainable student organization

With over 400+ student organizations at Grand Valley, there are many where you can exercise your green thumb. Look into clubs like Alternative Breaks, GVSU Beekeepers, Green Team, Farm Club, and more!

Tip #4: Study in a LEED-certified building

Did you know that GVSU has 26 LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) buildings? These buildings take measures to utilize less energy for their operations while making sure they are still functional. Study for your classes in one of these buildings to lower your carbon footprint.

Tip #5: Give back to our planet

Your attention and your time are worth the world! Volunteer for organizations that are dedicated to conservation and sustainability. Check out a list of opportunities with The Office of Student Life.
