Congrats to the February RSO of the Month: Black Student Union
By Joi Mays
The Black Student Union (BSU) is one of the many cultural student organizations at GVSU. Dedicated to producing unity without exclusion, BSU aims to bring fun, learning, and community to all Black students on Grand Valley’s campus.
The Black Student Union hosts various events on campus, most recently BSU Week. The week consisted of three big events: Standing on Business, a mock interviewing event, Karaoke Night, and the Love Carnival.
“Our Love Carnival event was a new event that we as a collective E-Board planned together to highlight Black love and community. As you can see from the photos and first-hand experience, both were well showcased all throughout Kirkhof which I believe was our main goal, making for a very successful and fun event.”
Maya Woodson, President of Black Student Union
As one of the organizations focused on Black students, the Black Student Union not only wants to facilitate a space where Black students can come together and have fun, but also make sure that other students know what the Black Student Union aims to achieve on campus.
“BSU week being in February is very intentional as this is Black History Month. We like to take this time to reflect and honor those who came before us and paved the way for us to be here today.”
Maya Woodson, President of Black Student Union
