Get Involved in Black History Month
February is Black History Month. Celebrate history, culture, traditions, and contributions of African Americans by attending the various events hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA).
The Blackout: Black Student Organization Showcase Friday, Feb. 9 | 6-8 p.m. | Kirkhof Center Lobby
The Blackout is a great opportunity for students to explore the Black and Afro led student organizations at GVSU. If you are unsure of what Black student orgs are available at Grand Valley, check out this event.
Film Screening: Judas and the Black Messiah Wednesday, Feb. 21 | 3-5:30 p.m. | Mary Idema Pew Library Multipurpose Room
Presented by the African/African American studies program, head to the library multipurpose room for a viewing of Judas and the Black Messiah.
Charles H. Wright Museum Trip Friday, Feb. 23 | Charles H. Wright Museum (Detroit, MI)
Head off campus and explore dozens of exhibitions as well as education and research opportunities for adults, children, and visiting scholars. Understand and reflect on the triumphs and tragedies of African American history at this field trip. For registration info, visit the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
For the Culture: Quiz Bowl Tuesday, Feb. 27 | 5-7 p.m. | Kirkhof Grand River Room (2550)
Flex your knowledge at this quiz bowl focusing on Africa and the Diaspora in history, language, geography, culture, music, and anything else you can think of! Come for the food and possibly leave with a prize. Register now!
