Louie's Thanksgiving Disaster

By Grace Hasley

On the morning of November 23, Louie woke with excitement for one of his favorite holidays. He dreamt of mashed potatoes and gravy all night long, visualizing the perfect Thanksgiving feast for him and all his friends.

Louie checked his to-do list and got to work. A proper turkey needs to be cooked slowly all day, so that was first on the list. Louie placed mittens over his blue and white gloves and slid in the turkey. With a glance at his recipe, he read: “616 degrees for three hours” or so he thought…

It was now time to kick back and relax. Louie took this time to open up the DSA Laker Weekly Newsletter to find out what's going on after Thanksgiving Break. After a while, Louie looked up and took a deep breath of burning turkey. He raced to the oven in a panic and threw the oven door open, where he was greeted with a cloud of smoke. Inside, a charred, dried out turkey was waiting for him.

A singular tear fell from his eye in defeat. Good thing Laker Food Co. is the home of the Laker Bowl! Louie hung his head and walked to The Blue Connection for his makeshift Thanksgiving feast where he used a meal swipe for a tasty gravy-loaded Laker Bowl.

Louie took his treat back to his room, where he decided to unwind by listening to Whale Radio while eating his Laker Bowl, perhaps a bit too fast. Just as he finished his last bite, Louie’s stomach grumbled angrily. Too many mashed potatoes and gravy at once!

Accepting his failure of a holiday, Louie crawled in his cozy bed and watched the University Counseling Center’s mindfulness videos to calm himself down. After practicing breathing techniques for relaxation, his mood was better in no time! With his new found energy, Louie walked over to the Fieldhouse.

Once on the courts, he spent the rest of Thanksgiving planning the perfect dance moves for his next Laker sporting event appearance. With our fight song blaring on the speakers, Laker pride healed his heart and made his Thanksgiving a great one.
