5 Reasons Why We're Proud to Be a Laker
From Laker bowls to campus strolls, there’s so many things that encompass being a Grand Valley Laker. Check out these 5 reasons you should wear your Laker blue heart on your sleeve!
5. Because there’s always something to do!
Whether you love screaming your head off at a Grand Valley football game or making friendship bracelets with the Campus Activities Board (CAB), there is always something to do at Grand Valley. Check out LakerLink or the GVSU Events page if you’re ever looking for something to do.
4. Because GVSU wants you to succeed!
Nothing feels better than seeing others do well. That’s why Grand Valley has plenty of resources to benefit students. Check out the University Counseling Center, Student Ombuds, The Office of Civil Rights and Title IX, Replenish, and dozens more resources that exist to support you and your college experience.
3. Because there’s tons of ways to get involved
Grand Valley is home to over 400 student organizations. With a quick look at LakerLink, you’ll find there are plenty of ways to connect with other students who share the same interests as you. Not finding anything to your taste? Reach out to the Office of Student Life to start your own.
2. Because Laker Lingo Exists
Have you ever talked to someone that doesn’t go to Grand Valley about a Laker Bowl? What about meeting them at Kirkhof? Not walking under the Transformational Link? As Lakers, we have a unique vocabulary that unites us! After all, what non-GVSU student knows about how easy it is to get lost in Mackinac Hall?
1. Because Lakers Keep Lakers Safe
Look out for other Lakers by taking the Lakers Keep Lakers Safe Pledge. You can pledge to speak up if you see or experience bias, harassment, or a student in need of support.

Know someone who shows Laker Pride? Nominate someone for Homecoming Royalty! Homecoming is a multiple-day event, where students and alumni get to celebrate everything it means to be a Laker. Help celebrate by going to events like the lip sync battle, football game, and more!
