How to Get Ahead During Winter Break with the Career Center

Winter break is a great time for students to relax and recover from a busy fall semester. However, break is also an opportunity for students to get a jumpstart in their career.

You can encourage your Laker to…

  1. Network with family and friends

It’s always good to spend time with family and friends during the holidays. You can encourage your Laker to use this time to network with them. Maybe a relative works at a company that suits your student’s major. Networking with others is a crucial skill, so you can help your laker strengthen their skills today!

2. Catch up on podcast episodes

Did you know that the Career Center has a podcast? You and your student can tune into the Work Like a Laker Podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or the Career Center website. Check out episodes about interviewing, internships, general self-awareness and more for guidance.

3. Update their resume

After a whole semester of opportunities and activities, it’s time to encourage your Laker to update their resume. Check out the Career Center’s Resume Guide for help!

4. Browse Handshake

Handshake is a website where students can explore employment opportunities. Students can filter for jobs and internships, create a profile, apply for positions, and more. Tell your Laker to create or update their Handshake profile to help them get ahead over break.

With some more free time on their hands, winter break is a great time for students to catch up or get ahead in their career with these 4 ways. If your student has questions about achieving their dream career or wants some guidance, refer them to the Career Center today.
