Lake Huron Hall renovations
Lake Huron Hall is one of the earliest GVSU buildings and was originally constructed as a library. Recently, the building received a full interior renovation as well as new HVAC (which was badly needed) and a new ADA-compliant elevator with its shaft outside the original structure. The second-floor exterior balconies were converted to enclosed study areas. The exterior architecture was preserved and repaired as needed. The large (244-seat) lecture hall was removed and the first floor was filled with new classrooms with sizes up to 60 seats. All classrooms have hearing loops and flexible furniture. The second floor includes English and Classics faculty and department offices, a new kitchenette, conference rooms, a nursing mother’s room, and a central skylit student gathering and study area. The original terrazzo staircases were preserved and their railings brought up to modern standards.
